Ingredients
  

  • 1 lb 450 g fresh asparagus – trimmed for even cooking
  • 1 tbsp olive oil – for coating and roasting
  • 2 tbsp unsalted butter – for making the sauce
  • 3 cloves garlic – minced for flavor depth
  • 2 tbsp all-purpose flour – helps thicken the sauce
  • 1 ½ cups 360 ml whole milk – creates a creamy base
  • ½ cup 120 ml heavy cream – adds richness
  • 1 cup 100 g shredded mozzarella cheese – melts smoothly
  • ½ cup 50 g grated Parmesan cheese – for a savory finish
  • 2 oz 60 g cream cheese – enhances creaminess
  • ½ tsp salt – adjust to taste
  • ½ tsp black pepper – for seasoning
  • ½ tsp dried thyme or Italian herbs – optional for aroma

Method
 

  1. Preheat oven to 400°F (200°C) and lightly grease a baking dish
  2. Arrange trimmed asparagus evenly in the baking dish
  3. Drizzle olive oil over asparagus and season lightly with salt and pepper
  4. Melt butter in a saucepan over medium heat
  5. Add minced garlic and sauté until fragrant
  6. Stir in flour and cook briefly to form a smooth roux
  7. Gradually whisk in milk and heavy cream until smooth
  8. Cook until the sauce thickens and becomes creamy
  9. Add cream cheese and stir until fully melted
  10. Mix in half of the mozzarella and Parmesan cheese
  11. Pour the creamy sauce evenly over the asparagus
  12. Sprinkle remaining cheese on top for a golden finish
  13. Bake for 20–25 minutes until bubbly and lightly browned
  14. Let rest for a few minutes before serving
