Preheat your oven to 180 °C (350 °F). Grease a loaf pan and line it with parchment paper for easy removal.
In a large bowl, whisk together the melted butter, sugar, molasses, eggs and lievito madre discard until smooth.
In a separate bowl, combine flour, ground ginger, cinnamon, cloves (or mixed spice), baking soda and salt.
Gradually add the dry mixture into the wet mixture, stirring until just combined.
Pour in the warm water and stir gently until you get a smooth batter.
Pour the batter into the prepared loaf pan and smooth the top.
Bake in the preheated oven for 50–60 minutes, or until a skewer inserted in the centre comes out clean (or with a few moist crumbs).
Once baked, let the cake rest in the pan for about 10 minutes, then lift out using the parchment paper and transfer to a wire rack to cool completely.
Before serving, dust with powdered sugar or top with whipped cream/yogurt if you like.
